1/29/2024 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Thursday to hear several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Thursday, February 1 at the Rise of the House (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to hear testimony on several bills.

Among the legislation being heard by the committee are the following bills:
  • 2024-H 7047, sponsored by Rep. Brandon Potter (D-Dist. 16, Cranston), amends the current law on controlled substances to permit a person to be in possession of less than one ounce of psilocybin and permits psilocybin to be securely cultivated within a person's residence for personal use.
  • 2024-H 7052, sponsored by Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence), prohibits the declawing of cats by any surgical procedure to amputate or modify a portion of a cat's paw in order to remove the cat's claws. Does not apply to any procedure performed for a therapeutic purpose.
  • 2024-H 7075, sponsored by Rep. John G. Edwards (D-Dist. 70, Tiverton), provides that the trapping and subsequent release of any unowned feral or free roaming cat for the purpose of spaying or neutering of the cat would not be considered abandonment.
  • 2024-H 7166, sponsored by House Judiciary Chairman Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown), authorizes the Family Court to order educational classes on child development and family dynamics for divorcing parents with children.
