1/22/2024 Media Advisory: Senate committees to hear update on Act on Climate progress on Tuesday
STATE HOUSE –Two Senate committees will meet in joint session this Tuesday to hear a report on Rhode Island’s activities toward meeting its climate goals.

The Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee and the Senate Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House to hear an update on the 2023 activities of the Executive Climate Change Coordinating Council (EC4).

Director of the Department of Environmental Management Terrence Gray and Energy Legislation and Programs Administrator of the Office of Energy Resources Karen Bradbury will present the 2023 activities of the EC4 to the two committees and then answer questions from committee members. There will be no public testimony at this meeting.

The EC4 was created in 2014 by the Resilient Rhode Island Act (2014-H 7904) to assess and coordinate efforts of state agencies to reduce emissions and prepare for the effects of climate change and updated by the 2021 Act of Climate (2021-S 0078A2021-H 5445A) to also oversee the creation and maintenance of a statewide plan to meet Rhode Island’s greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets which culminate in net-zero emissions by 2050.

The Senate Environment and Agriculture committee is chaired by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham) and the Senate Finance Committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).

The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
