Rep. Casimiro statement on St. Mary’s Home for Children report
|
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Julie A. Casimiro is issuing the following statement concerning the disturbing allegations regarding St. Mary’s Home for Children in a recent report by the Office of the Child Advocate:
“The Child Advocate’s report detailed events at St. Mary’s that are truly distressing and unacceptable. The children housed there are some of our state’s most vulnerable residents and for them to be cared for in this manner is atrocious. Thankfully, the Child Advocate’s office continues to be a true guardian of our state’s at-risk children and their dedication to helping these kids before an even more serious tragedy occurred is a godsend. I also would like to thank the director of DCYF and the governor’s office for promptly addressing the issues regarding their abuse reporting hotline and for swiftly stopping any more children from being placed at St. Mary’s following the Child Advocate’s investigation. This situation is beyond unacceptable and these children deserve so much better than what they have endured at St. Mary’s where they were supposed to be cared for and protected,” said Representative Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter).
