Rep. O’Brien delivers $6,000 grant for Ricci Middle School greenhouse
|
 STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence) secured a $6,000 legislative grant for the Mechatronics Program at Edward A. Ricci Middle School in North Providence. Last year, Representative O’Brien secured another $6,000 legislative grant for the program to construct the greenhouse at the school. This year’s grant will be used to support the operating expenses for the greenhouse.
“These kids are incredibly dedicated students and it’s an honor to help them continue with this exciting educational program that will serve them all well for decades to come. The skills and knowledge they are learning on the Mechatronics Team will prepare them to be successful and skilled adults and the program’s teachers and curriculum are tremendous assets to the students of North Providence,” said Representative O’Brien.
The Mechatronics Program is offered to seventh and eighth graders at the school and its curriculum incorporates electronics, agriculture and mechanical engineering learning along with various other STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) coursework.
