Deputy Majority Leader Ackerman issues statement on Hamas attacks
|
 STATE HOUSE – House Deputy Majority Whip Mia A. Ackerman has issued the following statement regarding the Hamas attacks on Israel this weekend:
“As a fiercely proud Jewish-American, I am heartbroken and sickened by the acts of terrorism carried out by Hamas on Israeli soil, murdering and maiming civilians and destroying communities. These unprovoked, brutal attacks were meant to inflict the maximum harm on innocent men, women and children in an effort to provoke fear and terror among the Jewish people, who have suffered brutal attempts to destroy us so many times throughout history. The world must never tolerate such violence, nor could anyone who cares about humanity remain silent or neutral in the face of such brutality. I stand unequivocally with the people of Israel and their nation’s duty to protect their safety. Terrorism must not be allowed to go unanswered, and the people of Israel deserve the support of the worldwide community. I think each and every state leader, including every state legislator, should be publicly condemning these attacks.”
Deputy Majority Whip Ackerman, who has family members living in Israel, regularly leads efforts in the General Assembly to celebrate Jewish heritage and commemorate important Jewish events, including an annual celebration of Israel’s Independence Day.
