8/16/2023 O’Brien congratulates Speaker Pro Tempore Kennedy on election to NCSL presidency
STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien today congratulated his colleague, Rhode Island House Speaker Pro Tempore Brian Patrick Kennedy for his election as president of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

Representative Kennedy (D-Dist. 38, Hopkinton, Westerly), who has previously served as vice president and president-elect of NCSL, ascended to the presidency of the national organization at its 2023 Legislative Summit this week in Indianapolis. The bipartisan organization serves the nation’s 7,383 state lawmakers and more than 30,000 legislative staff, providing research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and advocating for the interests of the states in the American federal system.

“NCSL is an incredible resource for those of us in state legislatures, and it is a testament to Speaker Pro Tempore Kennedy’s dedication and work ethic that he has risen in its ranks to lead it for the nation. I am proud and fortunate to have him as a colleague and a friend, and I wish him the great success he deserves as he takes the helm of this excellent institution,” said Representative O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence).
