MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to consider several bills and to hear the FY 2024 budget

STATE HOUSE — The Senate Finance Committee will meet tomorrow to consider several bills and to hear the FY 2024 budget.
The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).
On Tuesday, June 13 at the 3 p.m. in Room 211 of the State House, the committee will hear and/or consider the FY 2024 budget (2023-H 5200Aaa) sponsored by Rep. Marvin L. Abney (D-Dist. 73, Newport, Middletown).
Among the legislation scheduled to be considered are the following bills:

2023-S 0064, sponsored by Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket), provides that the permanent foundation educational aid program would provide state funding for school-based mental health services pursuant to specified conditions.

2023-S 0080, sponsored by Sen. Walter S. Felag (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton), increases the state earned-income credit as of January 1, 2024 to 16 percent of the federal earned-income credit, not to exceed the amount of state income tax.

2023-S 0924, sponsored by Sen. Frank A. Ciccone (D-Dist. 7, Providence, Johnston), subjects to taxation real property owned by non-profit institutions of higher education/nonprofit hospitals also amends charters issued by the general assembly to non-profit institutions/hospitals.

2023-S 0258, sponsored by Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown), provides for an appropriation by the General Assembly in the amount of $2 million to the various school districts and municipalities to employ additional social workers.
