6/5/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to consider advice and consents, votes and to hear legislation
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Finance Committee will meet tomorrow to consider two appointments, several votes and to hear legislation.

The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).

On Tuesday, June 6 at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 211 of the State House, the committee will consider the advice and consent of Thomas A. Verdi to be appointed as the Director of the Department of Revenue.  The committee will also consider the advice and consent of Jonathan P. Womer to be appointed as the Director of Administration. 

Among the legislation scheduled to be considered are the following bills:
  • 2023-S 0507, sponsored by Chairman DiPalma, removes the requirements that all contributions be forwarded to the general treasurer to be deposited in a restricted account and distributed as prescribed in this chapter.
  • 2023-S 0716, sponsored by Sen. Maryellen Goodwin (D-Dist. 1, Providence), eliminates the "until June 30, 2023" sunset on the increase in the total amount of earnings a partial-unemployment insurance claimant can receive before being entirely disqualified for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • 2023-S 0988, sponsored by Sen. Frank Lombardo (D-Dist. 25, Johnston), requires electric vehicle parking spaces in new and expanded parking lots.
Among the legislation being heard are the following bills:
  • 2023-S 0534, sponsored by Sen. Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence), increases the taxable wage base upon which employees make contributions to the TDI and TCI funds, increases individual benefit rates for lower wage individuals, and creates an opt- in option for self-employed workers.
  • 2023-S 0987, sponsored by Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Providence), provides $4 million to support comprehensive and effective afterschool/school vacation/summer learning/workforce development programs for students grades PK-12.
