5/30/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Thursday for several votes
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Thursday, June 1 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5:30 p.m.) in House Lounge of the State House to consider several pieces of the legislation.

Among the legislation the committee will consider are the following bills:
  • 2023-H 5117, sponsored by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon, Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), establishes separate disclosure requirements for the sale of vacant land and for the sale of real property and improvements consisting of a house or building containing one to four dwelling units.
  • 2023-H 5437, sponsored by Rep. Brandon Potter (D-Dist. 16, Cranston), prohibits force-feeding to create a force-fed poultry product nor hire another to engage in force feeding of a poultry product.
  • 2023-H 5564, sponsored by Rep. Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown), adds immunity from liability and provides compensation for certain injuries for employees whose position within school directly involves work with students.
  • 2023-H 5757, sponsored by Rep. Sherry Roberts (R-Dist. 29, West Greenwich, Coventry), increases the minimum sentence for first- and second-degree sexual assault and provides that the first 10 years of a sentence for first degree sexual assault and first five years for second degree sexual assault, not be subject to a suspension or deferment of sentence.
  • 2023-H 6400, sponsored by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence), requires the law revision director to report to the General Assembly, sections of law that are amended by multiple bills and which amendments are unable to be conflated.
The meeting will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, on i3Broadband on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.  The meeting will also be live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
