5/8/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: Legislators, advocates rally to draw attention to ACI suicides
STATE HOUSE – Sen. Jonathon Acosta (D-Dist. 16, Central Falls, Pawtucket) and Rep. Leonela “Leo” Felix (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket) will be joined by the advocates for a rally to draw attention to the need to reform solitary confinement. The action comes after three individuals incarcerated at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) have died by suicide in recent months. The family of Brian Rodenas, who died while in solitary confinement, will speak at the rally.

The rally will occur tomorrow, Tuesday May 9, at 2:45 p.m. in the State House Rotunda.

Senator Acosta and Representative Felix are drawing attention to the need to reform solitary confinement and urging legislators to support their legislation (2023-S 0617, 2023-H 6161) to do so. They will be joined by advocates from Open Doors, DARE, survivors of solitary confinement and other advocates.
