3/13/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee meets Tuesday to hear bill testimony and budget articles
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Finance Committee will meet this week to hear testimony on several bills and on articles from the governor’s proposed FY 2024 state budget (2023-H 5200).

The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).

On Tuesday, March 14, at the Rise of the Senate (about 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 2024 and FY 2023 Supplemental budgets for the Department of Administration.  The committee will also hear testimony on Article 1, Section 20, which relates to the Transfer to Large Systems Initiatives Fund, and Article 2, Section 9, which relates to State Funds by creating the Large Systems Initiatives Fund.

Among the legislation being heard, the committee will hear the following bills:
  • 2023-S 0555, sponsored by Sen. Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence), transfers the tax exemption classification to a surviving spouse until remarriage or death.
  • 2023-S 0030, sponsored by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), defines light duty, non-emergency, emergency and zero-emission vehicles and requires the state to convert its fleet of vehicles to no less than 50% of vehicles in those categories by the year 2031.
  • 2023-S 0511, sponsored by Chairman DiPalma, provides that if a state agency enters into a state contract for the licensing of software applications designed to run on generally available desktop or server hardware, the terms of the software contract would not limit the ability of the state agency to install or run the software on the hardware of the state agency’s choosing.
