MEDIA ADVISORY: Sen. Mack and Rep. Cruz to join Reclaim RI tomorrow for housing rally at State House

STATE HOUSE – Sen. Tiara Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence) and Rep. Cherie L. Cruz (D-Dist. 58, Pawtucket) will be joining Pioneer Tenants United and Reclaim RI at a rally on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. in the Rotunda of the State House to highlight critical tenant protection laws currently before the General Assembly.
The rally will also call attention to the unacceptable living conditions in properties owned by Pioneer Investments. Pioneer Tenants United cites cases of rodent infestation, lead poisoning, raw sewage spills and illegal retaliation against tenants for the need to pass crucial tenant protection laws.
The rally will highlight legislation that would:

Create a landlord registry;

Create a Tenant Bill of Rights;

Specify the duties and responsibilities of landlords and tenants when dealing with bed bugs;

Require a 120-day notice of any rent increases;

Eliminate rental application fees;
-
And, seal eviction proceeding records.
