2/13/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee to meet Tuesday and Thursday to hear budget articles, legislation and an appointment
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Finance Committee will meet twice this week to hear testimony on articles from the governor’s proposed FY 2024 state budget (2023-H 5200), two pieces of legislation and the advice and consent of the Secretary of Commerce appointment.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the rise of the Senate (about 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House, the following articles will be heard by the committee:
The committee is also scheduled to hear the advice and consent of Elizabeth M. Tanner, who has been appointed to the role of Secretary of Commerce by the governor.

The committee will also hear testimony on legislation (2023-S 0020) sponsored by Sen. Bridget Valverde (D-Dist. 35, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown) which would allow substitute teachers and post-retirement employees to exceed the 90-day cap on post-retirement employment if certain conditions are met.  Legislation (2023-S 0085) sponsored by Sen. Robert Britto (D-Dist. 18, East Providence, Pawtucket) which would increase the maximum amount of days a retired teacher and athletic coach may substitute teach from 90 days to 120 days will also be heard.

On Thursday, Feb. 16 at the rise of the House (about 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge, the committee will hear the following articles from the FY 2024 budget proposal:
The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).  The meeting will be streamed live online Via Capitol TV at http://www.rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
