STATE HOUSE – Sen. Maryellen Goodwin will once again serve as the Senate Majority Whip, Senate President Dominick Ruggerio has announced.
First elected in 1986, Senator Goodwin (D-Dist. 1, Providence) has been the Senate Majority Whip since 2011.
“It’s an honor and a pleasure to be our chamber’s majority whip. I am very grateful to my Senate colleagues for their helpfulness and collaboration, and I look forward to a productive term working together to move our state forward,” said Senator Goodwin.
Whip Goodwin will also continue to serve as vice chairwoman of the Permanent Joint Committee on State Lottery until April, when the chairperson position rotates back to the Senate. She has served as either chairwoman or vice chairwoman of the Permanent Joint Committee since 2006. The Joint Committee on State Lottery oversees all lottery operations, which are run by the Department of Administration.
