6/13/2022 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to vote on and hear legislation
STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will be meeting on Tuesday, June 14 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 35 of the State House to vote on and hear testimony on several bills.

Among the legislation being voted on by the committee are the following bills:
  • 2022-H 7640, sponsored by Rep. Joshua J. Giraldo (D-Dist. 56, Central Falls), amends membership of the RI Housing Resources Act of 1998 Commission to exclude a representative of the insurers and replace it with a representative of a Rhode Island city or town with a population below 25,000 and with a median family income of $40,000.
  • 2022-S 2411, sponsored by Sen. Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence), requires school lunch service contracts to provide for payment to school-lunch workers and aides for 180 days or the length of the contract for the school year, whichever is longer.
Among the legislation being heard are the following bills:
  • 2022-H 6665, sponsored by Rep. Marcia Ranglin-Vassell (D-Dist. 5, Providence), requires free lunches to be provided for all elementary and secondary students attending public schools, to the extent state and federal funds are available.
  • 2022-H 7448, sponsored by Rep. Leonela Felix (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket), prohibits the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) from imposing any fares and/or charges for service provided to the general public.
  • 2022-H 8275, sponsored by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett), mandates that a person's incarceration not affect his or her enrollment status in medical assistance.
  • 2022-H 8310, sponsored by Rep. Nathan W. Biah (D-Dist. 3, Providence), adds direct state support for costs associated with employing school resource officers.

The meetings will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, on i3Broadband on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.
