STATE HOUSE – Rep. Justine Caldwell has announced that the Department of Environmental Management has awarded the town of East Greenwich $500,000 in two outdoor recreation matching grants for improvements to Eldredge Field and Academy Field.
DEM is providing $400,000 for improvements to Eldredge Field, located at 101 First Ave., including a new perimeter path, reconstruction of the basketball court and ballfield, a new outdoor pavilion, benches and landscaping. For Academy Field, located at 121 Pierce St. DEM is providing $100,000 for new pickleball courts, a shade structure, accessible walkway, benches and accessible parking.
The funding for this project was made available through the 2021 Beach, Clean Water, and Green Bond.
“I’m so excited about these upcoming improvements to the parks in our town,” said Representative Caldwell (D-Dist. 30, East Greenwich, West Greenwich). “Making our recreational resources more accessible, attractive and useful is a good investment in our community, encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors with their families and neighbors. I’m looking forward to bringing my family to these parks to have fun in these great new and improved spaces.”
