5/11/2022 MEDIA ADVISORY: Rep. Casimiro to join Treasurer Magaziner this Friday for unclaimed property event
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) will be joined by General Treasurer Seth Magaziner this Friday for an event to help Rhode Islanders collect their unclaimed money and property that is held by the Treasurer’s office.

The event will take place on Friday, May 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Back 40 Restaurant located at 20 South County Trail in North Kingstown.

Every year, Treasury recovers unclaimed cash and assets from businesses, banks, securities, bank accounts, safety deposit boxes, and utility deposits. The property is kept safe until it can be returned to its rightful owner.  Currently, the Treasurer’s office holds more than $350 million in unclaimed property.

“This program returns Rhode Islanders’ rightful money to them without the hassle of searching a data base and filling out forms while seeing millions of dollars returned to the pockets of our state’s residents where it belongs.  Friday’s event will be another opportunity for the people of Rhode Island to come out and check to see if they have unclaimed money and property held by the Treasury.  With costs rising these days, every penny counts for so many Rhode Islanders and I urge everyone to check with the Treasurer’s office, whether online or at Friday’s event, to ensure that you have every dollar that you have earned and deserve,” said Representative Casimiro.

In 2017, Representative Casimiro was the primary sponsor of a law (2017-H 5743) which made it easier for the Treasury to return unclaimed property to Rhode Islanders through more efficient communication between state agencies.  The “YOUR MONEY” program was established, which matches unclaimed property with known addresses so money can be returned automatically.
