11/16/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Oversight Committee to hear update on several issues related to DCYF
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Oversight is scheduled to meet Wednesday to hear an update on several issues besetting the Department of Children, Youth and Families.

The committee will meet Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. in Room 35 in the basement of the State House.

DCYF has long been under the magnifying glass of the committee beginning with the investigation of the report of several fatalities of children in DCYF care. The panel is expected to hear an update from acting Director Kevin Aucoin on several matters, particularly:
  • An update on the settlement agreement between the State of Rhode Island and Children’s Rights Inc.
  • An update on progress in seeking human services accreditation from the Council on Accreditation, including the hiring of an addition 91 workers included in the state budget.
  • An update on the psychiatric residential treatment facility implementation plan.
The House Oversight Committee is chaired by Rep. Patricia Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry, Warwick).

The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15, and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers. It will also be live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
