8/30/2021 Felag, Speakman host State House blood drive Sept. 15
STATE HOUSE – Rep. June S. Speakman and Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. will host a blood drive at the State House, 82 Smith St., Providence, Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The blood drive will be open to the public, but space is limited and appointments are strongly recommended. Walk-ins will only be allowed if space permits at the time of arrival. To make an appointment, visit www.ribc.org/drives and use sponsor code 0996.

Donors are asked to eat and hydrate beforehand. All visitors to the State House must wear a mask.
“The blood supply in our region is currently at critically low levels. It’s concerning  because it could leave us without the blood we’d need if there were a significant trauma incident,” said Senator Felag (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton). “Donating blood is easy, and it literally saves lives right here in Rhode Island. Every single donation makes a vital difference to a patient or patients in serious need, so donating is a simple act of kindness that allows ordinary people to become a hero.”

Said Representative Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol), “Donating blood is something that most healthy people can do at no cost to themselves that has tremendous value to cancer patients, accident victims and patients with other life-threatening health issues. It’s a volunteer opportunity like no other, where the investment is small, but the benefit is immeasurable, and right now the need is extraordinary. We hope Rhode Islanders will join us at in rolling up their sleeves at our drive or at any Rhode Island Blood Center location to make sure the supply is there for every person whose life depends on a blood transfusion.”
