Senate passes Felag’s bill which expands eligibility to the Home Community Care Services Program to individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia

 STATE HOUSE – The Senate tonight passed legislation sponsored by Sen. Walter S. Felag, Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton) which would expand eligibility of the Home Community Care Services Program to individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
The legislation has been included in the FY 2022 state budget.
“This is the right and moral thing to do for our residents suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other related conditions. This is a devastating illness that requires significant care for those afflicted and this bill will help those, and their families, who do not have the means to pay for this critical care while also keeping these patients in a home care setting, rather than costly institutionalization, saving the taxpayers substantial dollars,” said Senator Felag.
The bill (2021-S 0162) would extend eligibility of the Home Community Care Services Program to persons under the age of 65 suffering from Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia confirmed by a licensed physician with income not exceeding 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
The legislation now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration where Rep. Joseph J. Solomon, Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick) has introduced the bill (2021-H 5115).
