4/2/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: Rep. Fenton-Fung to speak at national virtual conference on ‘Connectivity, Cybersecurity and COVID-19 in K-12 Education’ on April 7
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung (R-Dist. 15, Cranston) will be speaking on a national virtual panel discussing cyber issues for K-12 education during the age of COVID-19.  The conference examines the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on K-12 schools, including broadband and internet access, the homework gap, data cybersecurity, and the states’ role in supporting schools.

“It’s a great honor to be on this national panel led by the FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.  States across the country have been challenged by the digital device divide, broadband access issues, and cybersecurity.  This panel brings a lot of stakeholders together to talk about solutions and how to best utilize incoming federal assistance at the state level,” said Representative Fenton-Fung.

The conference, being sponsored by Women In Government (WIG), will be held on Wednesday, April 7 at 3 p.m. and will moderated by Washington State Representative Cindy Ryu, who is the Chairperson of the WIG Board of Directors.

Representative Fenton-Fung will be joined on the panel by Christine Fox, the Senior Director of External Affairs for the Consortium for School Networking.  The featured speaker of the conference will be FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.

The Women In Government Foundation, Inc., headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a national non-profit, non-partisan organization of women state legislators that provides leadership opportunities, expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex public policy issues to all women state legislators across the country.
