Handy applauds grants to CCAP, Scandinavian Communities
|
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Arthur Handy is very pleased and grateful that two nonprofit organizations in his district — the Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) and the Scandinavian Communities Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility — were among the seven statewide winners of grants from the Rhode Island Health and Educational Building Corporation (RIHEBC).
“Both CCAP and the Scandinavian Communities are excellent programs that provide critical services to our community. These grants will help strengthen their programs and provide even better care to more Rhode Islanders,” said Representative Handy (D-Dist. 18, Cranston).
CCAP was awarded $100,000, the largest of the grants statewide, to expand its Cranston dental center by adding three dental operatories to the current array of five, allowing for eight treatment rooms.
“Oral health is often the ‘window’ to an individual’s overall physical health,” said Joanne McGunagle, CCAP president and CEO. “By increasing dental access and capacity by expanding our dental operatories, we can decrease our waitlist and provide essential and holistic oral health to our targeted community. CCAP is grateful for this opportunity.”
The Scandinavian Communities Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility was awarded $9,041 to modernize an elevator at its rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility on Broad Street in Edgewood.
The RIHEBC assists municipalities, public school districts, and public and private nonprofit educational and healthcare organizations in securing funding for capital projects, especially tax-exempt debt financing. It recently announced a total of $516,946 in project grants to seven nonprofit health, education, and community service organizations statewide to complete major projects that will help them grow and expand services to better meet the needs of Rhode Islanders during COVID-19 and once the pandemic abates.
