2/8/2021 Sen. Raptakis calls Kent County Water Authority billing period ‘outrageous’
Has asked legislators to join him in requesting a full audit and operations review from Auditor General

STATE HOUSE – Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, East Greenwich, West Greenwich) is calling recent bills sent out to ratepayers of the Kent County Water Authority (KCWA) “outrageous” after seeing that the billing period runs from “late September to January 2021.”

“It appears that that the KCWA has yet to learn anything regarding their outrageous billing practices and this most recent bill is yet another slap to the face of the KCWA ratepayers.  There is no other utility in the state that would be able to get away with such imprecise and vague billing practices and frankly, it’s quite unbelievable that the KCWA thinks this is the proper way to go about their business.  With all of the problems that have arisen surrounding KCWA’s service to their ratepayers, this latest comedy of errors leads me to believe that the KCWA is nothing short of the Three Stooges of Rhode Island utilities,” said Senator Raptakis.

Senator Raptakis has also been gathering support from fellow legislators to request a formal audit and operations review of the KCWA by the state’s Auditor General, Dennis Hoyle.

“It really is just one problem after the other that keeps coming out of the offices of the KCWA and the ratepayers are fed up.  We have given the KCWA every chance to clean up their act, but as complaints continue to come in, it is now obvious that outside eyes and expertise are desperately needed to right this ship before any more damage can be done to the lives of KCWA’s ratepayers.  I have asked my colleagues in the legislature to join me in requesting this formal audit by Auditor General Hoyle because simply put, the ratepayers of the KCWA deserve far better service than they have received for quite some time,” said Senator Raptakis.
