2/5/2021 Handy named to House leadership posts
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Art Handy will serve as a House deputy majority leader and has been named to several committee leadership posts for the 2021-2022 term, House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi announced.

Representative Handy (D-Dist. 18, Cranston) was named to the House Oversight Committee and will serve as chairman of its new Subcommittee on Energy. The Oversight Committee reviews the operation and efficiency of various state departments and agencies, fulfilling the legislature’s oversight duties. Its new subcommittees will enable the committee to sharpen its focus on issues before it. Representative Handy has been a member of the committee since 2015.

Representative Handy will also serve as the first vice chairman of the new House Committee on Innovation, Internet and Technology, which will handle technology matters and legislation for the House.

Additionally, he will return as a member to the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee, a committee that he chaired from 2010 through 2018, and on which he served from 2004 until last year.

Representative Handy will also serve as a member of the House Health and Human Services Committee, a new committee created by the division of the vast work of the former Health, Education and Welfare Committee into two committees. Representative Handy served as a member of the former Health, Education and Welfare Committee from 2003 through 2018.

Representative Handy was first elected to the House in 2002.
