2/2/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Labor to hear minimum wage bills tomorrow
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Labor Committee will be meeting virtually via WebEx tomorrow, February 3 at 4 p.m. to hear several bills that relate to the state’s minimum wage.

The following bills will be heard by the committee:
  • 2021-S 0001, sponsored by Sen. Ana B. Quezada (D-Dist. 2, Providence), gradually increases the minimum wage from $11.50 per hour to $15 per hour.
  • 2021-S 0077, sponsored by Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, East Greenwich, West Greenwich), increases the minimum wage commencing January 1, 2022, in accordance with an amount equal to the total percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for the Northeast Region for the four previous fiscal years.
  • 2021-S 0136, also sponsored by Senator Raptakis, creates an 11-member commission whose purpose it would be to study Rhode Island's minimum wage, and who would report back to the Senate no later than May 4, 2021, and whose life would expire on January 4, 2022.
  • 2021-S 0137, also sponsored by Senator Raptakis, provides tax credit for businesses as minimum wage bench marks are reached or adopted in the future.
  • 2021-S 0143, sponsored by Sen. Frank A. Ciccone (D-Dist. 7, Providence, North Providence), provides increases to the minimum wage in 2021, 2022, and 2023 and implements a permanent formula to provide annual adjustments to the minimum wage thereafter.
The State House continues to be closed to the public at this time.
