2/1/2021 Rep. Casey appointed chairman of new House Committee on Health and Human Services
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket) has been appointed chairman of the new House Committee on Health and Human Services by Speaker of the House K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick).

The new committee was formed recently when the House adopted it rules separating the former Health, Education and Welfare Committee into two separate panels. The Health and Human Services Committee will consider legislation and matters dealing with the Departments of Health; Human Services; and Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. It also handles legislation relative to public health and welfare; health care and human service access and quality, professional standards of practice and facility standards of care.

“I am thrilled and honored to serve the House of Representatives as chairman of this new committee,” said Representative Casey. “As we continue to navigate through this pandemic, legislation that impacts medicine and health care becomes more challenging. I look forward to facing those challenges and deliberating these issues with the many talented colleagues who will be joining me on this committee.”

In addition to his role as chairman, Representative Casey will be serving on the House Committee on Corporations, the Committee on Labor, the Committee on Special Legislation, and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
