2/1/2021 Rep. Fogarty appointed chairwoman of House Committee on Special Legislation
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown) has been named chairwoman of the House Committee on Special Legislation by Speaker of the House K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick).

The Committee on Special Legislation was created by the House of Representatives in 2019. It handles legislation pertaining to commissions, resolutions and issues that do not fall within the purview of other standing committees.

“The Special Legislation Committee plays an important role in vetting bills that otherwise would be spread out among other committees that are more accustomed to focusing on a narrow range of legislation,” said Representative Fogarty. “I look forward to leading this committee and working with my colleagues to give these bills the attention they deserve.”

In addition to her position as chairwoman, Representative Fogarty will serve as first vice chairwoman of the Committee on Municipal Government and Housing. She will also serve on the House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, and the Committee on Health and Human Services.
