1/26/2018 Senate resolution congratulates Paul Tetreault for receiving 2017 Hometown Hero Award
STATE HOUSE — The Rhode Island Senate has passed a resolution introduced by Sen. James C. Sheehan (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown) congratulating Paul Tetreault, head coach of North Kingstown High School’s track and cross country programs, for winning the 2017 Hometown Hero Award from FloSports, a producer of live digital sports.

The award is the result of a national search for coaches who exhibit strong leadership and inculcated in their athletes the ability to excel and help build strong neighborhoods and communities through teamwork, goal setting and a work ethic that doesn’t quit until the task at hand is complete.

“We all need hometown heroes, now more than ever,” Senator Sheehan told the Senate as the chamber honored Coach Tetreault. “There are young people growing up in some very difficult home situations, and in many instances fractured communities where there is very little support for them. But there are those like Coach Tetreault who serve as safety nets to help catch these kids when they can. He’s coached in North Kingstown and changed lives there for 38 years now. He deserves the recognition for everything he does both on and off the track.”

The resolution (2018-S 2164) noted that “Coach Tetreault is a big believer in ‘paying it forward.’” It goes on to state that he and his family have “spent countless hours donating their time in support of numerous community service events including assisting the local Ronald McDonald House, aiding local road races, and cooking meals for families with sick children. At the end of every email he sends his athletes, he lists things they can do to make a difference within their community.”
