9/29/2017 House Finance Committee schedules hearings on PawSox stadium legislation
STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee has scheduled two hearings in October on legislation concerning public financing for a new stadium for the Pawtucket Red Sox. The public is invited to provide input in advance or at the second hearing.

The first hearing, scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 35 on the basement level of the State House, will be an opportunity for the committee members to thoroughly review all aspects of  the legislation (2017-H 6366, 2017-H 6367), including the deal terms, soundness of its assumptions and implications for the city and the state. This hearing will include a staff briefing as well as testimony from the sponsors, representatives of the PawSox and the City of Pawtucket and Secretary of Commerce Stefan Pryor. No public testimony will be taken at this hearing.

The second hearing, scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 3:30 p.m., will focus on public testimony. It will also allow an opportunity for any necessary follow-up from the committee on issue raised at the first hearing. Members of the public giving live testimony will be time-limited to allow for maximum participation from those signed up to speak.

Written testimony will also be accepted in advance of or at the hearing, and is encouraged, given the high level of public interest in the legislation. Written testimony can be emailed to HFCPawSoxhearings@rilegislature.gov. A link to the email address is available on the General Assembly website, rilegislature.gov.  Written testimony may also be mailed to:

Both hearings are open to the public, although public testimony will be taken only on Oct. 18. They will also be televised live on Capitol TV (Channel 1013 for Cox HD; Channel 15 for Cox and Full Channel; Channel 34 for Verizon) and live streamed at rilegislature.gov/CapTV.
