Rep. Alex Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown) was elected to
the Rhode Island House of Representatives in November 2022. He is a
member of the House Finance Committee and the House Corporations Committee.
During the 2025
legislative session, Representative Finkelman was the author of a new law that lifts a
restriction on the investments of insurance corporations to enable them to grow
in Rhode Island. The bill eliminates a law that limits insurance companies
headquartered in Rhode Island from investing any more than 10 percent of their
assets in “Schedule BA” investments. This will level the playing field for
insurers in Rhode Island because neighboring states do not have such limits.
In 2024, Representative Finkelman introduced a new law that will limit the
amount a third-party vendor may charge to help Rhode Islanders find and
recover unclaimed property. He also introduced legislation to
hold electric and gas companies accountable by increasing transparency in
their billing practices.
During the 2023
legislative session, he sponsored a new law that allows the town of
Jamestown to give a
tax break to its volunteer firefighters.
He is a graduate of the Providence Country Day School in East
Providence and the University of Hartford with a degree in Insurance and
Finance.
Born on February 13, 1986, he is the Owner/President of The Egis
Insurance Group, specializing in insurance, consulting, and employee
benefits. Representative Finkelman previously served on the Jamestown
Zoning Board.
He is married to Denise and is the father of Oliver and Andre.
