Senator Stephen R. Archambault is a democrat representing Senate District 22,
comprised of the towns of Smithfield, North Providence and Johnston. He was born
on August 11, 1965 and is married to Gigi Rodriguez Archambault. Senator
Archambault is a life-long Smithfield resident, and he lives on the family farm
in Smithfield where he grew up.
Senator Archambault earned his B.A. from American University in 1990; an M.S.
in Justice from Salve Regina University in 1996; and his J.D. from the Roger
Williams University School of Law in 2000. He is a member of the Rhode Island
Bar Association and owns Archambault Law Offices, Inc., in Smithfield. Senator
Archambault is a former police officer for the Town of Jamestown. He has been an
active Prosecutor for the Town of Lincoln for 12 years, the Town of North
Smithfield for 6 years and he is a former prosecutor/solicitor for the towns of
Smithfield and Foster.
Prior to his election to the Rhode Island Senate in 2012, Senator Archambault
was a candidate for Rhode Island State Attorney General in 2010 and a member of
the Smithfield Town Council from 2006-2010, serving as Vice President and later
President of the Council from 2007-2008, overseeing a 60 million dollar budget.
As president, he created the Smithfield Financial Review Commission, which acts
a financial “watch-dog” for the town.
