Felag, Knight bill signed renaming Warren bike path bridge the ‘Cpl. Richard C. Brule Bridge’

STATE HOUSE – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. and Rep. Jason Knight has been signed into law renaming the East Bay Bike Path Bridge in Warren as the Cpl. Richard C. Brule Bridge.
“Cpl. Brule gave his young life to defending freedom and democracy, and his memory and legacy continues to flourish in his hometown of Warren. This is a fitting tribute to a true Rhode Island hero and it’s an honor to recognize Cpl. Brule in a place that he loved to frequent during his upbringing in Warren,” said Senator Felag (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton), who serves as the chairman of the Senate Special Legislation and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
“I am proud to honor the legacy of Cpl. Brule and I am grateful that his memory will live on in the hearts of Warren’s residents and anyone else who uses the East Bay Bike Path. Cpl. Brule was a selfless son of Warren who paid the ultimate price while fighting for democracy and this monument will serve as a reminder that our way of life is not free,” said Representative Knight (D-Dist. 67, Barrington, Warren).
Cpl. Richard C. Brule, of the North End of Warren, was a member of the 198th Light Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry, D Company. He was 20 years old when he was killed in action in Vietnam in 1970, and is buried in the Saint John the Baptist Cemetery in Warren.
Cpl. Brule was one of four members of the Warren community who lost his life in the Vietnam War. The legislation (2025-S 1062, 2025-H 6323) was introduced at the behest of Warren resident Ernest Rabideau, who grew up with Cpl. Brule.
