3/20/2023 Media Advisory: Senate Health, Human Services Committee meets Thursday
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday for hearings on a variety of bills. The committee is also set to vote on one bill extending the date on the state’s harm reduction center pilot program.

The meeting is scheduled Thursday, March 23, at the rise of the Senate (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House.

Scheduled for a vote is:
  • 2023-S 0026 —Sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence), this bill extends the expiration date of the Harm Reduction Center Advisory Committee and Pilot Program by two years, from March 1, 2024, to March 1, 2026.
 
Among the bills on the agenda for hearings are:
  • 2023-S 0023 — Also sponsored by Chairman Miller, this bill would guarantee availability of coverage in the individual health care market to eligible residents of state, regardless of preexisting conditions.
  • 2023-S 0287 — Sponsored by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), this bill would require insurance coverage for at least 90 days of residential or inpatient services for mental health and/or substance use disorders for American Society of Addiction Medicine levels of care 3.1 and 3.3.
  • 2023-S 0290 — Sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham), this bill would create a workgroup of health care providers and health insurers convened by the Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner, to make recommendations regarding prior authorization policies.
