Media Advisory: House schedules committee vote on bill allowing pharmacists to prescribe hormonal contraceptives
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets tomorrow for votes on several bills, including one allowing pharmacists to prescribe hormonal contraceptives. The committee has also scheduled hearings on numerous other bills concerning prescription drugs and other health care issues.
The committee is set to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, at the rise of the House (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge on the second floor.
Scheduled for votes are:

2023-H 5282 — Sponsored by Rep. Camille F.J. Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21, Warwick), this bill would authorize pharmacists to prescribe and dispense hormonal contraceptives, provided that they have completed a training program approved by the State Board of Pharmacy.

2023-H 5284 — This bill sponsored by Rep. David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston) would expand the rights of physician assistants with regard to their practice and prohibit noncompete clauses that exceed five years with regard to the purchase and sale of a practice.

2023-H 5348 — Sponsored by House Deputy Majority Whip Mia A. Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln), this bill would require retail establishments with three or more employees on the premises and without a public restroom to allow customers suffering from eligible conditions access to their employee restrooms.

2023-H 5175 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Joseph M. McNamara (D-Dist. 19, Warwick, Cranston) would allow health insurance plans to provide coverage for accessible residence modifications determined to be medically necessary.

2023-H 5176 — Sponsored by Rep. Michelle E. McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), this bill would require group health plans and health insurance issuers that provide prescription benefits to cover epinephrine injectors and cartridges without a copay or deductible.

2023-H 5281 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy (D-Dist. 38, Hopkinton, Westerly) would cap the amount payable for a 30-day supply of equipment or supplies for insulin administration or glucose monitoring at $25, or per item for equipment designed to last more than 30 days, with no deductible, commencing Jan. 1, 2024.
