6/7/2022 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets for a second time on Thursday to consider and hear legislation
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will also be meeting on Thursday, June 9 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 101 of the State House to vote on four bills and to hear testimony on two other pieces of legislation.

The committee will be considering the following bills:
  • 2022-H 8248A, sponsored by House Majority Leader Christopher R. Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence), makes a number of technical amendments to the General Laws that were prepared at the recommendation of the Law Revision Office.
  • 2022-H 7693, sponsored by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett), includes the offense of second-degree sexual assault among the offenses to which there shall be no statute of limitations.
  • 2022-H 7410, sponsored by Rep. Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown), prohibits the use of illegally seized evidence in administrative hearings involving fish/wildlife violations, limits penalties for violations to $500, establishes forfeiture provisions, and requires hearing officers to decide constitutional issues.
  • 2022-S 2093, sponsored by Sen. Frank S. Lombardi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston), creates a temporary non-liquidating receivership program for businesses with substantial revenue decline after a declared emergency suspended or ceased a substantial part of operation resulting by emergency police/regulatory powers.
The committee will also hear testimony on the following bills:
  • 2022-H 8230, sponsored by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter), defines any act of sexual penetration or contact perpetrated by an individual with a position of authority upon a person over the age of 14 and under the age of 18 as third degree sexual assault.
  • 2022-H 8303, sponsored by Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence), requires owners of animals in RISPCA custody to pay for the animal's care or the animal may be forfeited.
The committee will also be meeting at 3 p.m. to consider three firearm related bills in Room 101.
