MEDIA ADVISORY: House COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force meets on Tuesday for an update on vaccine program

STATE HOUSE – The House of Representatives COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force will be meeting on Tuesday, September 21 at 3 p.m. in Room 101 of the State House to hear an update on the COVID-19 vaccine program and other COVID-19 related matters.
The update will be delivered by Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, MD, MPH, Director of the RI Department of Health and Dr. Philip A. Chan, MD, MS, Consultant Medical Director with the Rhode Island Department of Health and Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Brown University.
Dr. Alexander-Scott and Dr. Chan will brief the task force on the following items:

School vaccine update
-
Mask mandate for healthcare workers

Booster vaccine process
-
Vaccine mandate
The task force will also receive a COVID-19 policy update from Dr. Michael Fine, MD, Chief Health Strategist for Central Falls and Pawtucket and the Medical Director of Beat COVID-19.
No public testimony will be accepted at the meeting.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15 and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1013, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers. The task force, chaired by Rep. Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence), was created to ensure that Rhode Island’s distribution of the vaccine is done in a timely manner following the CDC guidelines and that front-line workers, the health-compromised and the elderly are given access first, and also to make certain the needs of the underserved populations are appropriately addressed.
