9/8/2021 Media Advisory: Commission to study Low and Moderate Income Housing Act to meet tomorrow
 STATE HOUSE – The special legislative commission to study the Rhode Island Low and Moderate Income Housing Act is scheduled to meet tomorrow with representatives of the Providence Planning Department for a presentation on the city’s housing strategy.

The meeting is scheduled tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 9 from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in Room 35 on the basement level of the State House. The meeting will be live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx and televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15, and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.

The agenda includes a presentation, Providence’s Anti-Displacement and Comprehensive Housing Strategy, by Emily Freedman and Bonnie Nickerson of the Providence Planning Department. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session with the commission and the presenters. Freedman is also a member of the study commission.

The commission, led by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol), is to study barriers to affordable housing creation and identify ways to help cities and towns meet their obligations under the Low and Moderate Income Housing Act to ensure that at least 10 percent of their housing stock qualifies as affordable.

Besides Chairwoman Speakman, the commission includes Rep. Anastasia P. Williams (D-Dist. 9, Providence), Rep. Michael W.
