6/21/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets today to consider several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on today, Monday, June 21 at the 4 p.m. in the House Lounge of the State House to consider several bills.

Among the bills being considered are the following pieces of legislation:
  • 2021-H 5974, sponsored by Rep. Jason Knight (D-Dist. 67, Barrington, Bristol), invests the chief justice of the Supreme Court with the explicit authority to address issues affecting the conduct of judicial business and order whatever response(s) he or she deems necessary.
  • 2021-H 6173A, sponsored by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol), updates and modernizes the Department of Environmental Management's ability to enforce environmental laws, and more specifically modifies practices regarding a notice of violation.
  • 2021-H 6438, sponsored by Rep. Jose F. Batista (D-Dist. 12, Providence), creates a statewide body-worn camera program for police departments in the state.
  • 2021-H 6215, sponsored by Rep. Edith H. Ajello (D-Dist. 1, Providence), would amend the definition of sexual orientation in regard to fair housing practices. This act would also allow all parties including the attorney general and the commission to remove the case to Superior Court. This act would also require the commission to issue a notice of right to sue when the case is removed to Superior Court.
The State House remains closed to the public as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The hearing will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.
