6/6/2024 Sen. de la Cruz, Rep. Noret to co-host Rhode Island Day of Portugal ceremony and reception at State House
STATE HOUSE — Senate Minority Leader Jessica de la Cruz (R-Dist. 23, Burrillville, Glocester, North Smithfield) and House Deputy Majority Leader Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), along with the Portuguese-American members of the Rhode Island General Assembly and the 2024 Committee of the Celebration of Day of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage in Rhode Island will welcome community leaders and the general public for a ceremony and reception at the State House.

The celebration will take place Friday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. starting in the State Room on the second floor of the State House.

The event is aimed at showcasing Portuguese culture and the many contributions the Portuguese have made to the Ocean State. The Coral Herança Portuguesa will sing the American and Portuguese national anthems. Rhode Island State Officials and Portuguese Officials will be in attendance for a speaking program, followed by cultural performances and refreshments.  

Senator de la Cruz and Representative Noret are both of Portuguese descent and have each sponsored Resolutions in their respective chambers to be read and moved for passage on Thursday, June 6, 2024 following a Legislative Reception in the State House Library. Senator de la Cruz will also serve as a Grand Marshal for the RI Day of Portugal Parade, stepping off from the State House at 2 pm on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
