3/15/2022 Rep. Baginski’s polling place standards bill passes House
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Jacquelyn Baginski’s (D-Dist. 17, Cranston) legislation which increases the amount of voters a polling place can accommodate and sets further polling place standards was passed by the House of Representatives tonight.

“We all know that voting matters and it is critical that our residents have the most accessible voting process possible when Election Day occurs.  This bill will ensure that polling places will be determined and utilized in the best locations to maximize voter turnout and participation, allowing our residents to exercise their constitutional rights and voice in the easiest manner possible,” said Representative Baginski.

The bill (2022-H 7429A) would increase the maximum number of voters that a polling place can accommodate from 3,000 to 3,500 voters.  The bill also provides factors to consider when designating polling locations, such as taking into account the accessibility of the polling location to disenfranchised communities, the proximity to dense concentrations of voters, the accessibility to public transportation and maximizing voter participation through the use of community centers and public gathering places.

The bill will now be referred to the Senate for consideration.
