2/11/2019 Rep. McLaughlin to introduce legislation to commit up to $3 million for restoration of Broad Street initiative
STATE HOUSE — Rep. James N. McLaughlin (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) is introducing legislation that would commit up to $3 million for the restoration of the Broad Street Regeneration Project.

After learning of a cut in funding that would have removed total reconstruction of the area of Broad Street between Chambers Street and St. Patrick School, Representative McLaughlin worked with House leadership to initiate a meeting between the Cumberland Town Council and officials from the Department of Transportation, including Director Peter Alviti.

Representative McLaughlin requested a resolution from the Cumberland Town Council requesting the funding to submit along with the legislation.

“What we’re looking to do is restore funding in the project that would include a complete reconstruction of the road,” said Representative McLaughlin. “The state of the roadway demands a complete overhaul — including new sidewalks, trees and drainage —rather than just a cursory repaving. I’d like to thank the DOT and the Cumberland Town Council for coming together to address this.”

The project is a two-year initiative to improve a 3.2-mile-stretch of Broad Street through Pawtucket, Central Falls and Cumberland.
