1/30/2019 Rep. McLaughlin bill would authorize $20 million to Rhode Island Capital Plan Funds
STATE HOUSE — Rep. James N. McLaughlin (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) has introduced legislation that would authorize $20 million to the Rhode Island Capital Plan Funds.

The capital planning fund, which is authorized by state law, allows certain funds to be allocated to agencies for the purpose of completing preliminary planning studies for proposed projects. The bill (2019-H 5148) would make an appropriation for transportation projects.

“With the number of crumbling roads and bridges we have in Rhode Island, it’s imperative that we set aside a certain amount of money to cover the preliminary studies that are required to solve these transportation problems,” said Representative McLaughlin.

The legislation would set the funds aside specifically for transportation projects to ensure a reliable and safe transportation system including reducing the number of deficient bridges in Rhode Island.

The legislation, which is cosponsored by Representatives Joseph M. McNamara (D-Dist. 19, Warwick, Cranston), James B. Jackson (D-Dist. 26, West Warwick, Coventry Warwick), David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston) and Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), has been referred to the House Finance Committee.
