1/29/2019 Woonsocket delegation appointed to leadership team in House of Representatives
STATE HOUSE — Speaker of the House Nicholas A. Mattiello (D-Dist. 15, Cranston) has named each member of the Woonsocket delegation in the House of Representatives, including Representatives Michael A. Morin (D-Dist. 49), Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50) and Robert D. Phillips (D-Dist. 51), to the leadership team.

Representative Phillips, who has been named a Deputy Majority Leader, has been appointed to the Committees on Environment and Natural Resources, where he will serve as first vice chairman; Health, Education and Welfare, where he will serve as second vice chairman; and Small Business.

Representative Morin, who has been named a Deputy Majority Leader, has been appointed to the Committees on Finance, where he will chair the Subcommittee on General Government and serve on the Subcommittee on Public Safety; Corporations, where he will serve as second vice chairman; and Small Business. He will also serve on the Permanent Joint Committee on State Lottery.

Representative Casey will serve as chairman of the House Committee on Special Legislation. He has also been appointed to the Committees on Labor, Corporations, and Veterans’ Affairs.

The House Finance Committee reviews the governor’s proposed budget as well as legislation regarding public finance. The Committee on Corporations considers issues relating to financial institutions, business regulation, property and casualty insurance and consumer protection.

The House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources hears matters pertaining to environmental issues, such as conservation, pollution, renewable energy and the green economy. The Health, Education and Welfare Committee deliberates on matters relating to the health care system, public education, human services and children and families.

The House Labor Committee deliberates legislation relating to workers’ compensation and labor laws. The Small Business Committee reviews legislation relating to the streamlining of licenses and permits, eliminating or decreasing bureaucratic steps and delays and uncoordinated or duplicative reviews and filings, and reducing associated added costs to businesses.

 The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs handles all legislation impacting the lives of Rhode Island veterans and those currently in military service. The newly created House Committee on Special Legislation handles legislation pertaining to constitutional amendments, commissions, resolutions and issues that do not fall within the purview of other standing committees.
