Statement from Speaker Shekarchi on deadly shooting at Pawtucket arena
|
STATE HOUSE – Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi issued the following statement today on the deadly shooting at a Pawtucket arena:
“I am devastated that Rhode Island has experienced another tragedy caused by gun violence. A school sporting event should be a safe place for students and families to gather and have fun without fear.
“While we are still awaiting the facts of this incident, it may have stemmed from domestic abuse, which impacts too many people. We are all heartbroken for the victims, their loved ones, and everyone affected.
“Thank you to the law enforcement, first responders, medical staff, and everyday Rhode Islanders who rushed to help. Our strength is in our community, and as we heal from this senseless tragedy, please continue to take care of each other.”
