6/13/2022 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Wednesday to vote on several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, June 15 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to vote on several bills.

Among the legislation being considered by the committee are the following bills:
  • 2022-S 2791, sponsored by Sen. Cynthia A. Coyne (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence), removes diversion programs from the list of criminal convictions subject to mandatory DNA collection.
  • 2022-S 2795, sponsored by Sen. Ana B. Quezada (D-Dist. 2, Providence), permits the Department of Corrections to release a sentenced inmate up to 3 days early directly to a community partner for residential treatment or stable housing when completion of sentence is incompatible with the community partners staffing or scheduling capabilities.
  • 2022-S 2804, sponsored by Sen. Stephen R. Archambault (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, North Providence, Johnston), adds the chief inspector and inspectors within the Office of Inspections to the definition of "peace officer."
  • 2022-S 2808, sponsored by Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, East Greenwich, West Greenwich), establishes criminal penalties for a wanton or reckless act or omission of a parent, guardian or any other person who has custody or control of a child that result in substantial risk of serious bodily injury or sexual abuse of a child in their care.
The meeting will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, on i3Broadband on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.  The meeting will also be live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
