STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will be meeting tomorrow, Thursday, May 26 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 35 of the State House to vote on amended legislation which would allow the City of Providence to take out a pension obligation bond.

The amended legislation (2022-H 7499A) sponsored by Rep. Scott A. Slater (D-Dist. 10, Providence) would authorize the city to finance a contribution towards its unfunded pension liability by issuing bonds in the principal amount of $515,000,000.

The committee will also hear testimony on legislation (2022-H 7623) sponsored by Rep. Nathan W. Biah (D-Dist. 3, Providence) which would promote the use of state surplus property by permitting the Department of Administration to obtain an appraisal and sell property to be used for housing development purposes where appropriate.

Written testimony is strongly encouraged and may be submitted via HouseFinance@rilegislature.gov.  Testimony will be posted on the General Assembly website: http://www.rilegislature.gov/Special/comdoc/Pages/HFIN.aspx.
