4/8/2022 Aquidneck Island reps to host meeting on ‘Aging Your Way’
STATE HOUSE – Representatives Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) and Deborah Ruggiero (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown) will be hosting a virtual constituent meeting next week to discuss the “Aging Your Way” legislation they are sponsoring.

The constituent meeting will be held on Zoom Wednesday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. To register, visit tinyurl.com/agingyourway. Registrants will be sent the Zoom link.

The Aging Your Way Act (2022-H 7616)  encourages state agencies to employ individuals who have expertise in the areas of transportation, housing, nutrition, health, financial and economic literacy and stability, lifelong learning, physical and social engagement, and adult protective services; to provide professional development to agencies and programs providing senior services; to appoint senior centers as the community hub for emergency service delivery; and to give senior centers and municipalities more authority on senior programs.

“Rhode Island should invest much more than we do in services that enable people to age in place and safely remain in their communities. Those services are far more cost-efficient overall, and encourage an active, more fulfilling lifestyle for people as they age. Considering that a quarter of our population consists of seniors, and that ratio is growing as the Baby Boomers join them, now is the time,” said Representative Carson.
