MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate to hold hearings on health insurance bills this week
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee meets tomorrow and Thursday for hearings on bills concerning health insurance.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 29, at the rise of the Senate (sometime after 5 p.m.) in Room 211 on the second floor of the State House for hearings on bills including:

2022-S 2548 — Sponsored by Sen. Bridget Valverde (D-Dist. 35, North Kingstown, East Greenwich, Narragansett, South Kingstown), this bill would establish a special enrollment provision for pregnant women to obtain health insurance coverage at any time during pregnancy.

2022-S 2327 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Dawn Euer (D-Dist. 13, Newport, Jamestown) requires every individual or group health insurance contract effective on or after Jan. 1, 2023, to provide coverage to the insured, their spouse and dependents for all FDA-approved contraceptive drugs, devices and other products.

2022-S 2696 — Sponsored by Sen. Melissa A. Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), this bill caps the costs under private insurance for 30-day supply of equipment or supplies for insulin administration or glucose monitoring at $25 or equipment designed to last more than 30 days with no deductible commencing January 1, 2023.

2022-S 2194 — This bill sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Dennis L. Algiere (R-Dist. 38, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown) would make Medicare-eligible disabled individuals under age 65 eligible for Medicare supplemental policies.

2022-S 2476 — Sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence), this bill would require health insurers, nonprofit hospital service corporations, nonprofit medical service corporations, health maintenance organizations and Rhode Island Medicaid to issue policies that provide coverage for emergency medical services transport.

2022-S 2075 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence) establishes the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund to provide finance assistance to families for medical expenses not covered by state or federal programs or insurance contracts.
