3/28/2022 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee to hear budget testimony on human services, higher education
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to meet twice this week to hear testimony on the proposed state budget, particularly related to the Department of Human Services and institutions of higher learning.

The committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 29, at 5 p.m. in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House.

Members will hear testimony on Article 13 of the proposed state budget, relating to human services. The committee will also hear budget proposals under the American Rescue Plan Act related to child care investments, emergency staffing at the R.I. Veterans Home, and  DHS eligibility extension compliance.

The committee will also meet Thursday, March 31, at 4 p.m. in the Senate Lounge to her budget proposals related to higher education.

Members will hear testimony on Article 4, relating to Debt Management Act joint resolutions, Article 5, relating to the capital development program, specifically higher education facilities, the University of Rhode Island Narragansett Bay Campus, and Community College of Rhode Island renovation and modernization. The committee will also hear budget proposals under the American Rescue Plan Act related to higher education academies.

 In addition to these two meetings, the Subcommittee on Revenue, General Government and Public Safety will meet Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Senate Lounge to discuss budget proposals under ARPA related to support for domestic violence survivors. The subcommittee will also meet Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Senate Lounge to discuss the budget of military staff.
