3/21/2022 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Thursday to hear a variety of legislation
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Thursday, March 24 at the RISE of the House (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to hear testimony on a variety of legislation.

Among the bills being heard are the following pieces of legislation:
  • 2022-H 7409, sponsored by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett), removes the statute of limitations for actions based on sexual abuse or exploitation of a child and would make eligible previously time barred actions.
  • 2022-H 7567, sponsored by Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence), allows for a civil action against parents of a student who demonstrate willful or wanton disregard for the duty to supervise their child who has committed the offense of cyber stalking or cyber harassment.
  • 2022-H 7708, sponsored by Rep. Anastasia P. Williams (D-Dist. 9, Providence), requires an applicant for a license to provide a valid social security number. This act creates an alternative ID driving license for applicants without a social security number who are able to establish proof of Rhode Island residency.
  • 2022-H 7933, sponsored by Rep. Jacquelyn Baginski (D-Dist. 17, Cranston), raises minimum wrongful death recovery to $365,000 adjusted annually for inflation.
  • 2022-H 7939, sponsored by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket), allows the Division of Motor Vehicles to issue a state identification card to residents unable to establish lawful presence in the United States upon proof of residence in this state and a tax identification number.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15, and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers, and live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.

Individuals may testify in person before the committee at the State House. Sign-up sheets are available in/outside the hearing room.
